Round Rock Express News Release

LAS VEGAS - The Round Rock Express (19-15) put up five runs against the Las Vegas 51's (16-16) in the seventh inning to take the lead Thursday night at Cashman Stadium. The lead was short-lived as Las Vegas answered right back with their own two runs in the bottom of the eighth, winning the game.

Both teams got a runner in scoring position in the first frame, but couldn't capitalize on that. Express starter Colby Lewis, making his first rehab start with the team, gave up a home run to 51's Zach Lutz in the bottom of the second on a 0-0 pitch to give Las Vegas their first lead of the game. Juan Centeno hit a single down the line to score Omar Quintanilla and advance Eric Campbell. Three batters later, Lewis uncorked a wild pitch to score another run, giving the 51s a nice 3-0 start.

Richard Bleier replaced starter Colby Lewis after 2.0 innings and 41 pitches. Bleier tossed up a 1-1 offering to Wilmer Flores who took him deep to give Las Vegas a 4-0 lead.

The E-Train offense exploded in the seventh inning thanks to a lead-off double from OF Aaron Cunningham, his second of the night. Jim Adduci singled to advance Cunningham and put runners on first and third. Designated hitter Alex Buchholz hit a double of his own to score Cunningham. Gonzalez Germen came in in relief of Las Vegas starter Chris Schwinden, who went 6.1 innings, giving up just three runs on seven hits. Catcher Eli Whiteside hit a sac-fly to score Adduci and advance INF Alex Buchholz and tie up the game. OF Engel Beltre and INF Jurickson Profar both drew walks with two outs to set the stage for Chris McGuiness. McGuiness lined a pitch to deep center, scoring three runs, giving the Express a brief lead.

LHP Nate Robertson came in the game for the Express in the bottom of the eighth. Kirk Nieuwenhuis doubled down the left-field line with one out. Collin Cowgill followed up with a two-bagger of his own to score Nieuwnehuis and tie up the game. Manager Bobby Jones went to the bullpen early, brining in closer extraordinaire Cory Burns to end the threat for the Express. Burns gave up a single to the first batter he faced, scoring Cowgill and giving the lead back to the 51s. The E-Train put some pressure on Las Vegas in the bottom of the ninth when Whiteside reached base with two outs. However, the drama would have to wait for another day as Beltre grounded into a double play to end the game.

Reliever Robertson took the loss, his first of the season. Las Vegas reliever Greg Peavey picked up the win, improving to 2-2. 0

The Express will continue its road trip with game three of four against the 51's in Las Vegas tomorrow night at 9:05 p.m. CST. Right-hander Colby Lewis (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make a major league rehab start for the Express and will be opposed by RHP Chris Schwinden (2-3, 5.65 ERA). After four games in Tucson (May 11-14) to conclude the trip, the Express will return home for eight games beginning with Colorado Springs on May 16.
