Tucson Padres News Release
The Albuquerque Isotopes scored five runs before making an out in their 8-7 win over the Tucson Padres Thursday at Kino Stadium. The loss snapped the Padres five-game winning streak.
The Isotopes started the game with seven consecutive hits and sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning. Down 5-0, Tucson answered with two runs in the bottom of the first on RBI hits from Daniel Robertson and Gregorio Petit. After Jaff Decker's RBI single in third, the Padres scored two runs in the fifth to tie the score, 5-5. The two runs came on Jesus Merchan's sacrifice fly to right and an error by Albuquerque first baseman Rusty Ryal.
Albuquerque reclaimed the lead in the sixth with two runs of their own, including an RBI single from former Tucson Sidewinder Brian Barden. Rene Rivera's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth cut the Isotopes lead to one. Rivera finished the night 4-for-4 with four singles and a walk. The Isotopes added an insurance run they'd later need in the seventh when Alfredo Amezaga hit a solo home run over the right field wall. Tucson rallied for a run in the ninth and had the tying and winning runs on base with two outs, but Steve Ames got James Darnell to fly out and end the game.
Red Patterson earned the win for the Isotopes, tossing a scoreless inning of relief, while Tommy Layne was charged with the loss after allowing two earned runs in the sixth.
