Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Derek Wathan recorded the third cycle in team history, but it was not enough as the Albuquerque Isotopes fell to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 16-11 on Thursday night at Isotopes Park.

Colorado Springs used 22 hits and a record five homers against the struggling Isotopes' pitching staff as Albuquerque fell for the seventh time in its last nine games. The Isotopes rallied from a 7-4 deficit in the fourth inning as Wathan hit an RBI double and Joe Dillon hit his 18th homer of the season, a three-run shot, giving the Isotopes a brief 8-7 lead. In the sixth, the Sky Sox recorded three straight hits off starter Scott Sanders (1-5) to tie the game at eight. Pat Mahomes then gave up a two-run double to catcher Kip Pellow as Albuquerque fell behind 10-8.

Wathan recorded four of the Isotopes' 17 hits, notching a single in the first, RBI double in the fourth, a triple in the sixth, and a two-run homer in the eighth. It was the second cycle in the last month as Joe Dillon did it on June 14 vs. Iowa. Jorge Pidra led the Sky Sox with six hits, three of which were homers.

The Isotopes fall a season-high 6.5 games behind the Iowa Cubs and 1.5 games behind the Sky Sox in the Central Division. Albuquerque will host Colorado Springs in game two of three Friday night beginning at 7:11 PM. Post-game fireworks will follow.
