WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. â The Sacramento River Cats (50-31) beat the Tucson Sidewinders (42-38) by a score of 14-1 on Thursday at Raley Field. With the win, Sacramento increased its lead to a season-best seven-and-a-half games over second-place Tucson in the PCL South.
RHP Steve Woodard (8-4) earned the win, allowing just 1 R (0 ER) on 6 H in 7.0 IP. RHP Lance Cormier (1-2) took the loss for Tucson. RF Matt Watson led the Cats' offense, going 3-for-4 with 3 R and 3 RBI. Watson hit his 10th home run in the seventh inning. 3B Mike Edwards had 3 H for Sacramento, as the River Cats out-hit Tucson 16-8 in the game.
The River Cats and Sidewinders will play the second game of their three-game series on Friday (7:05 pm) at Raley Field.
