Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Sacramento pounded 16 hits on the way to a 14-1 win over Tucson Thursday night at Raley Field in the opener of an important three-game series for the Sidewinders. The loss was Tucson's sixth in seven games and dropped the club 7 1/2 games behind the River Cats in the PCL South Division. The River Cats improved to a league best 50-31.

Lance Cormier suffered the loss for Tucson allowing six walks and eight runs in three plus innings of work. Cormier had allowed just one run in his last 20.1 innings and just five walks in four starts. Sacramento plated two runs in the first on three hits and two walks. The River Cats added single runs in the second and third inning before scoring five times in the fourth inning to chase Cormier and blow the game open.

Four Tucson pitchers combined to walk 11 River Cats batters and hit one. Matt Watson capped the Sacramento scoring with a long two-run homer in the seventh inning.

Tucson's lone run was an unearned tally in the second. Craig Ansman singled and scored on a throwing error by the catcher Mike Rose.

Luis Terrero returned from his indefinite suspension from the PCL that kept him out of action for 34 games. Terrero went 2-4 with two singles.

Tucson dropped to 42-38. The Sidewinders and the River Cats will play game two of the three-game set Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Mike Gosling (3-4 6.15) will start for the Sidewinders against Sacramento's Mario Ramos (1-1 3.83). The game will be broadcast live on Cool 1450 AM.
