Nashville Sounds News Release

NASHVILLE -- Nashville shortstop Tomas de la Rosa delivered a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the eleventh inning to plate J.R. House and propel the Sounds to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the division-rival New Orleans Zephyrs on Friday evening at Greer Stadium.

With one out in the Nashville eleventh, House singled to center off reliever Miguel Saladin and moved to second when Luis Figueroa tapped the right-hander’s next pitch back to the mound. Luke Allen – who homered earlier in the contest – was intentionally walked to set the stage for de la Rosa, who delivered his first go-ahead RBI of the season to give the Sounds the victory.

The game-winning run constituted the first time all night for either team that a run was scored on anything besides a home run, as all four of the previous runs were solo dingers.

The extra-inning contest was the PCL-leading 13th of the year for Nashville (38-42). The win was also the eighth last at-bat win for the Sounds as well as the sixth come-from-behind victory when trailing after six.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when New Orleans third baseman Mike Coolbaugh hit his second home run in as many days to make the game 1-0 in favor of the Zephyrs. The blast, his 14th of the season, came off Nashville starter Dave Williams.

New Orleans was able to garner another run in the sixth as Eric Bruntlett nailed his fourth home run of the year off Nashville reliever Jim Mann over the left field fence to give the Zephyrs a 2-0 lead.

The Sounds finally arrived on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Luke Allen rocked Zephyr starter Brandon Duckworth’s 3-2 pitch over the centerfield wall. The home run, which was Allen’s 11th of the season, came on Duckworth’s last pitch of the evening. Nashville knotted the game at 2-2 an inning later when Andy Abad shellacked Zephyrs reliever Russ Springer’s 0-1 pitch over the leftfield fence with one down.

The Zephyrs’ Chris Burke went 1-for-6 on the evening to extend his PCL-best on base streak to 36 games. Sounds catcher Keith McDonald flew out as a pinch-hitter to snap his season-high hit streak at 12 contests.

Willis Roberts (6-3) picked up the win for the Sounds after fanning four in his 2 1/3 scoreless innings and added a double in his lone plate appearance. Saladin (1-4) was charged with the loss for the Zephyrs.

The teams wrap up the three-game set with a 6:00 p.m. finale on Saturday evening. Right-hander Nelson Figueroa (7-5, 4.66) takes the hill for the Sounds to face New Orleans righty Brandon Backe (2-1, 3.38).
