Tom's Fiver Helps Ducks Dunk Goats

HARTFORD, CT- Batting ninth in the line up, Ka'ai Tom went 5-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and four runs scored, as the Akron Rubber Ducks dunked the Hartford Yard Goats, 15-3, Friday night.  The game was played before Hartford's second capacity crowd of the season, 6,850. It was also the Yard Goats 10th sellout at Dunkin' Donuts Park this year. Hartford leads the Eastern League in attendance, having drawn 128,894.

Andrew Calica set the tone for the entire night, as the Akron center fielder led off the game with a home run off of Parker French. Tom's two-run homer in the third added to the lead and the onslaught was on. The Rubber Ducks (23-18), who lead the Eastern League's Western Division, scored in every inning but two and won for the first time ever in five tries at Dunkin' Donuts Park. The 21 hits surrendered by Hartford's pitchers were the most in franchise history.

Bobby Bradley added three hits and three RBI, while Todd Hankins had two hits, including a home run to contribute to the offense of the Cleveland Indians affiliate. Anthony Phillips had two hits and an RBI and Sam Hilliard added two hits to lead Hartford (22-19), the Colorado Rockies affiliate.

French pitched the first four innings for the Yard Goats and allowed seven runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out two.

Game three of the series is Saturday night at 6:05. LHP Jack Wynkoop will pitch for the Yard Goats against LHP Matt Whitehouse for Akron. The game will be televised on Vantage Sportsnet, broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
