Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Baysox starter Lucas Long limited Trenton to a run on four hits in six strong innings on Friday night but the Baysox fell short falling 2-0 at Arm & Hammer Park in Trenton, NJ. Bowie mustered just one hit as Trenton starter Brian Keller was dominant through eight shutout innings.
Long struggled in the first inning, walking two batters while throwing more balls than strikes. He got out of the jam with runners left stranded at the corners and then he settled in. In the third inning, with a runner at 2nd an one down, Abiatal Avelino popped up a bunt to the third base side. Long raced off the hill and made a headlong diving catch and got to his feet to throw behind the runner for an inning ending double play.
Bowie could not get anything going offensively. In the top of the fourth inning, Austin Hays reached on an error, stole second but was left stranded. The Baysox lone hit came in the sixth when a Cedric Mullins chopper stayed low to the ground as the second hop hit the lip of the infield grass skidding into right field.
Trenton scored on a two-out RBI-single from Jeff Hendrix in the fourth inning. Then with Baysox reliever Reid Love on to pitch, big league rehabber Greg Bird hit a solo home run to right field. Love allowed just the one run in two innings in his first outing in 15 days.
The loss is a sixth in the last seven games for the Baysox. Bowie falls to 18-22 with the defeat, a season low four games below the .500 mark.
Bowie looks to get their first victory of the series Saturday, May 19th at 7:00 pm against Trenton as LHP Brian Gonzalez will make his Eastern League Debut. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior on baysox.com, wnav.com and via the MILB, Tune-In and WNAV Apps.
The Baysox return home Tuesday, May 22nd for a three-game series with the Altoona Curve. Get tickets over phone at 301-464-4865 or online at baysox.com.
