Trenton Thunder News Release
An eight-inning gem by Brian Keller and a Greg Bird solo home run highlighted a 2-0 win for the Thunder over the Bowie Baysox in front of a crowd of 6,174 on Friday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.
Bird, in his fourth rehab game for the Thunder, supplemented the Thunder (26-14) lead with a long home run to right field off Baysox (18-22) reliever Reid Love in the bottom of the eighth. The game's only other run came in the bottom of the fourth, as Jeff Hendrix scored Bird from third on a line-drive single to right field.
Brian Keller turned in a season-high eight scoreless innings for the Thunder, holding Bowie hitless through the first five innings before allowing the visiting team's only hit, a Cedric Mullins single, leading off the sixth. Jordan Foley entered in relief for the ninth and walked the leadoff hitter. After inducing a double play grounder from Corban Joseph, Foley issued a two-out walk to Anthony Santander before striking out Ryan Mountcastle to end the game.
Baysox starter Lucas Long allowed just one run over six innings pitched, scattering four hits but also walking three batters while striking out only one.
Abiatal Avelino went 0-for-3 with a walk for the Thunder, ending his team-best hitting streak at 11 games but extending his on-base streak to 17 games.
Your Thunder continue their homestand on Saturday night at 7pm against the Baysox. RHP Dillon Tate (1-2, 3.82) will start for the Thunder, and LHP Brian Gonzalez (Double-A debut) will go for Bowie. Former Thunder player Tony Clark is scheduled to make an appearance, and a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by ARM & HAMMER, will take place after the game. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
