NEWS AND NOTES

THAT WAS ONLY THE OPENER : The Portland Sea Dogs and Altoona Curve (Pirates affiliate) lock-up in game two of their four-game series on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field...Portland has won three straight road games for the first time this season, and hitting .340 (64-for-188) with 8.6 runs-scored-per-game on the trip...Last night was Portland's first game against the Western Division...Their first home-series against the West is June 5-7 against Bowie.

EPIC NIGHT IN CURVE, PA : Altoona built a 7-0 lead after five innings but the Sea Dogs scored 12 runs in the final four innings, and held on for a 12-9 win in the series opener in 10 innings..The Curve tied the game at nine in the ninth inning but in the 10th inning with two outs, Luke Tendler smacked a three-run homer to right field for the game winner...Portland took an 8-7 lead in the ninth inning on a two-out, two-run single from Danny Mars...Trevor Kelley (1-2) worked two innings on three hits and two runs to notch the win.
