Ficociello's walk-off sinks Fightins in extras

(Erie, PA) - Erie SeaWolves (16-23) designated hitter Dominic Ficociello hit a walk-off RB single in the bottom of the 12th inning off Fightin Phils (14-23) relief pitcher Tyler Viza (0-2) to give Erie a 2-1 win on Friday night. The Fightins are now 2-3 in extra innings this season.

The Fightin Phils got on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning as Jan Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly off SeaWolves starting pitcher Sandy Baez to take a 1-0 lead. Erie tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning as Danny Woodrow hit a RBI single off Fightins starter Harold Arauz to score Sergio Alcantara.

Arauz turned in one of his strongest starts of the season as he allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits while issued three walks and recorded three strikeouts. Baez allowed just one run in five innings for the SeaWolves.

Tyler Gilbert pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Arauz. He struck out three batters, while issuing one walk. Edgar Garcia pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts in relief of Gilbert. Erie's Matt Hall (1-2) got the win by pitching a scoreless top of the 12th inning.
