Toledoâ??s Three-Run Sixth Dooms G-Braves

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Chad Huffman broke a sixth-inning tie with a two-run triple and Steven Moya went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to boost the Toledo Mud Hens (10-12) to a 6-2 victory over the Gwinnett Braves (13-13) on Monday night at Coolray Field.

Huffman laced his third triple of the year over the first base bag and into the right field corner, scoring Casey McGehee and Moya to put the Mud Hens ahead for good. McGehee had worked a one-out walk against Ian Krol (L, 0-2) before Moya's third hit of the night became lodged underneath the padding of the outfield wall in right for a ground-rule double.

Humberto Quintero capped the three-run inning with an RBI single to left to extend Toledo's cushion to 5-2. Argenis Diaz provided the final blow with an RBI single in the eighth to send the G-Braves to their fourth straight loss.

Toledo starter Josh Turley (W, 2-2) worked out of a jam in the sixth to keep the Mud Hens ahead and finished his night with just two runs allowed. He scattered six hits and walked one while striking out six over 6.0 innings.

Gwinnett got to Turley to tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth. Emilio Bonifacio, Rio Ruiz and Ryan Lavarnway collected consecutive hits to lead off the inning before Ronnier Mustelier bounced into a fielder's choice, scoring Bonifacio. Sean Kazmar Jr. followed with a sacrifice fly to center to knot the score.

Kanekoa Texeira allowed just two runs (one earned) on four hits over 5.0 innings, walking one and striking out two. Two of those hits belonged to Moya, an RBI double in the second and an RBI single in the fourth to stake Toledo to a 2-0 lead.

Krol allowed three runs on three hits over 1.0 inning of work, and right-hander John Gant pitched the final 3.0 innings with a run on four hits.

Preston Guilmet (H, 2) and Logan Kensing combined to work 3.0 scoreless, one-hit innings in relief of Turley.

Offensively for the G-Braves, Ruiz went 2-for-4 with a run scored to boost his average to .341. Bonifacio went 1-for-4 with a run scored, extending his hitting streak to eight games. Ozzie Albies (1-for-4) and Emerson Landoni (1-for-4) each notched their first career Triple-A hits.

Gwinnett continues the three-game series vs. Toledo on Tuesday night at Coolray Field, first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Lawrenceville native Lucas Sims (0-1, 2.25 ERA) will make his first professional start at Coolray Field for the G-Braves, while the Mud Hens will counter with right-hander Warwick Saupold (1-1, 1.00 ERA). Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM at 6:35 p.m.
