Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

LAST TIME OUT: A fifth-inning home run by Adam Brett Walker proved the only run as the RailRiders fell to the host Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) on a rainy Sunday afternoon, 1-0. The RailRiders have lost 18 of their last 26 at Frontier Field. The Red Wings (11-13) have won seven of their last 11 and lead the season-long series between the clubs, 4-3.

COMPLETE EFFORT: SWB's Anthony Swarzak (1-3) took a tough-luck loss. The right-hander was the team's first hurler to last seven frames in his prior start. On Sunday, he became the first to toss eight innings, logging a complete game in the process. He scattered five hits, walked one and struck out five. After his first three starts, he went 0-2 with a 6.92 ERA, .345 BAA and 1.85 WHIP. In two starts since he's gone 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA, .185 BAA and 0.73 WHIP.

HE'S BACK: Slade Heathcott went 2-for-4 with a double. He also notched an outfield assist when he nabbed Byron Buxton at second base on a fly-ball double play. Before Friday, Heathcott had not played since he was hit on the hand by a Wade LeBlanc pitch on April 20 and hit the DL. Since his return, he has gone 4-for-15 with a double, a triple and five RBIs while hitting third in all four games.

WHAT GOES UP...: The RailRiders entered Sunday with 21 runs scored on 33 hits through three games this road trip. They had gone 12-for-30 (.400) with men in scoring position. On Sunday, the team suffered its third shutout loss, mustered five hits (four singles) and went 0-for-5 with men in scoring position.

R&R: Rob Refsnyder entered the road trip in a 4-for-30 funk with no RBIs over his prior eight games. He singled on Sunday and finished the series 5-for-14 (.357) with a walk and four runs scored. He has hit safely in six straight games, lifting his average by 32 points (.190-.222).

DUAL THREAT: Catcher Gary Sanchez co-leads the IL with 11 extra-base hits: eight doubles, one triple, two homers. He paces the IL's catchers with 152 total fielding chances and no errors. He also leads the loop's backstops with 144 putouts. When he's been behind the plate, opposing base stealers have been caught six times in 12 attempts (.500), making him one of three ranked IL catchers at 50% or better.

PARM CHARM: Former Red Wing Chris Parmelee (2012-14) started the year 2-for-26 (.077) with 10 strikeouts. He has since gone 13-for-35 (.371) with five extra-base hits and five RBIs over 10 games.

ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMIN: Ben Gamel, last season's IL Rookie of the Year, owns a .305 average and a team-high seven stolen bases in 21 games played. Over his last 12 games, the usual leadoff man has gone 16-for-44 (.364) with four steals and nine runs scored.

THAT WAS EASY: At 2:12, Sunday marked the RailRiders' fastest nine-inning game of 2016. Last year's RailRiders' fastest nine-inning game came in Buffalo on Aug. 29, a 3-1 loss that took just 1:49. That contest made for the fastest nine-inning SWB game in its time as the Yankees' top affiliate (2007-Present). The franchise record of 1:38 was set by the Red Barons on a chilly Thursday in Ottawa on April 4, 2002 when a then-21-year-old Brett Myers lost an eight-inning complete game. The Opening Day hurler allowed one unearned run on three hits. An eighth-inning error by Chase Utley led to the lone score in a 1-0 game that sported a game-time temperature of 34 degrees. The Ottawa manager that game was Tim Leiper, now the first-base coach for Buffalo's parent club, the Blue Jays. The winning run was scored by Randy Knorr, a former Blue Jay who played for and later managed Syracuse. He is now a senior baseball advisor for the Washington Nationals.

OFF THE RAILS: Each team went 0-for-5 with men in scoring position...The game was played with a steady mist/light rain...Before the game, the New York Yankees announced that reliever Diego Moreno was placed on the SWB DL...The team also received lefty Dan Camarena from Double-A Trenton, who warmed up in multiple innings, but did not enter...Since coming off the DL, Cesar Puello has gone 5-for-8...Donovan Solano has gone 12-for-30 (.400) over his last eight games...The RailRiders' third shutout loss of the year was their second in five days.
