Buffalo Bisons News Release
A.J. Jimenez and David Adams both batted in two Bisons as Buffalo came away with a late 5-3 victory over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at Coca-Cola field Monday night.
With the game tied at three, Jesus Montero led off the Herd's half of the eighth with a walk and moved to second on a bloop single into shallow left by Casey Kotchman.
Alexi Casilla then came on to pinch run for Montero and both runners moved up 90 feet on Junior Lake's slow groundout to third.
Jimenez then came up to bat and brought home the go-ahead run with a sac fly to left, his second RBI of the evening. The Bisons' catcher plated Lake earlier in the second inning with his first triple of the season.
"He's starting to come around. He didn't have a lot of at bats in spring training and he sat out two weeks because he got put on waivers...It's still like spring training for him." said manager Gary Allenson, who also pointed out Jimenez's strong defense.
"His whole game is starting to round into shape now."
Adams doubled twice in nearly identical fashion. Both extra-base hits came on fastballs and both were taken to the wall in left. His two-bagger in the second followed Jimenez's triple while his line-drive in the eighth plated Kotchman to cap the scoring at 5-3.
"I'm just trying to pay attention to tendencies. You know, watching the right-handers in front of me, seeing how they're pitching them to kind of have an idea of what they're going to do to me," noted Buffalo's third baseman who extended his hit streak to six games.
"I think we've got a really good offense and I think that'll continue to improve."
Monday marked the first time in five games that the Herd crossed home more than twice.
Both starters pitched well in the series-opening contest but neither hurler was able to factor into a decision.
Wade LeBlanc went 5.1 innings before being knocked out of the game by Eddy Rodriguez's two-run blast over the wall in left which tied the game at three. The former Seibu Lion was charged with all three runs while striking out seven, one shy of his season high.
Dustin Antolin and Pat Venditte combined for 3.2 innings of shutout relief. Venditte came away with his first win of 2016.
LeBlanc's counterpart, Luis Cessa, spread three hits and three walks over five innings and was charged with two of the three runs he allowed.
BISONS NOTES:
Wade LeBlanc now has 29 strikeouts in 2016, putting him three ahead of Drew Hutchison for the team lead...Dustin Antolin added two more to his punch-out total, leading Buffalo's relief corps with 21...A.J. Jimenez's triple in the second inning was his first since May 22 of last year...Andy Burns third-inning double tied him with the Internation League lead at eight. Nine of his 22 hits have been for extra bases.
