Trenton Devils News Release
READING, PA (February 11, 2004) â Once again the Titans dug themselves a hole they could not climb out of. Scooter Smith had a goal and an assist as the Reading Royals staked a 2-0 lead in the first period. David Masse's 8th goal of the season at 6:22 of the second period, however, proved to be the back breaker as the Titans were able to make a game of it.
PJ Martin fired a slapper past Royals goaltender Peter Hamerlick to make the score 3-1. Then Mike Siklenka, assigned from the Philadelphia Phantoms this morning, put a centering pass off of Royals defenseman's skate and into the net to pull the Titans within one goal. That's as close as the Titans would get as Dave Stewart sealed the deal with an empty net goal with 4.5 seconds left.
Andrew Allen made 39 saves on 42 shots and suffered his 14th loss of the season. The Titans went without a power play goal for the second game in a row as they were 0-for-2 with the man advantage. With the loss, the Titans have fallen eight points behind the Royals for the fifth and final playoff spot.
