Alaska Aces News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Valdemar Pelikovsky, traded by Alaska just five days ago, came back to haunt his former club with the game-winning goal as Bakersfield rolled past the Aces 7-4 in front of 3,022 at Centennial Garden.

All of the first period scoring occurred in a span of 2:51 midway through the frame. Alaska grabbed a 1-0 lead when Wes Dorey tipped in a pass from Denis Ladoucueur (the player acquired in exchange for Pelikovsky) at 12:58. Jason Ralph roofed a wrist shot over Alaska starter Lance Mayes to deadlock the contest 53 seconds later on a Condor power play, but Joe Talbot blasted home a one-timer for his 20th goal of the year to push the Aces back in front, 2-1, with 4:11 remaining in the period.

Bakersfield tied the game at the 5:51 mark of the middle frame when Andrew Ianiero scored on a breakaway, and the Condors took the lead for the first time when Kevin Riehl blasted a slapshot past Mayes from the top of the left circle with 7:16 left in the period. Charles Linglet scored his first goal since January 2 to lift Alaska back into a 3-3 tie in a four-on-four situation at 15:50. But the Condors, ranked next-to-last in the 31-team ECHL on the power play coming into the game, converted for the second time to regain the lead as Paul Rosebush jammed a shot in from close range with 2:50 left in the second period.

The Aces (25-16-4) forged a 4-4 tie four minutes into the third period when Jonathan Gauthier launched a blast from beyond center ice that trickled off Shane Bendera's blocker and into the back of the net. That goal set the stage for Pelikovsky's heroics, as the second-year pro stuffed in the game-winner on a rebound with 10:57 left in regulation. Johan Astrom added an insurance goal just 87 seconds later, and Mike Barrie's empty-netter with 1:07 remaining provided the final margin.

Alaska, which gave up a season-high 41 shots on goal in losing 7-4 for the second straight time at Bakersfield, hops on the bus and heads down to Long Beach for tomorrow night's 6:00 p.m. AST clash against the Ice Dogs, who are only 15-27-4 overall but a respectable 6-5-2 over the last month. This week's games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.alaskaaces.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.
