Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps continued their home cooking with a 2-1 win over the Great Lakes Loons in the series opener Tuesday evening at Parkview Field.
After Monday's scheduled opener was postponed due to rain, the TinCaps (18-13) grabbed a win in game one of Tuesday's scheduled doubleheader, while game two was postponed due to (more) rain.
Fort Wayne and Great Lakes (11-17) are scheduled to conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader Wednesday. Game one is still slated to begin at 11:05 a.m., and the series finale will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of Wednesday's first game. Both are scheduled for seven innings.
Fans who had tickets to Tuesday's postponed game can redeem their tickets for any remaining 2016 regular-season game at Parkview Field. The tickets must be exchanged at the Parkview Field Ticket Office for tickets of equal or lesser value, with the ability to upgrade, based on availability. There are no full or partial cash refunds.
Tickets for Wednesday grant admission to both games of the doubleheader.
After four scoreless frames Tuesday, the TinCaps climbed ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth when second baseman Peter Van Gansen reeled in right fielder Mason Smith with an RBI single to left-center field.
TinCaps starting pitcher Walker Lockett cruised into the sixth inning and only surrendered one run on four hits, no walks and four strikeouts.
With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, TinCaps center fielder Michael Gettys delivered a run-scoring single through the left side of the infield to plate pinch runner Kodie Tidwell.
Fort Wayne right-hander Trey Wingenter (W, 1-0) fanned three over the final 1.1 innings.
Loons righty Dennis Santana (L, 0-4) allowed two runs (one earned) in 5.1 innings.
Fort Wayne improved to 10-3 at home in 2016. The TinCaps are 5-0 in series openers at home.
