Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Bowling Green, KY - In the second game of a three-game series and a seven-game homestand at Bowling Green Ballpark, the Bowling Green Hot Rods came back from a three-run deficit and beat the Lansing Lugnuts in eleven innings by a score of 4-3.

In their attempts to carry over momentum from a seven-run, seventh inning and a 7-2 victory the previous night, the Hot Rods fell behind the Lugnuts early.

Courtesy of bases-loaded walk drawn by outfielder Justin Atkinson against Hot Rods starter Roel Ramirez and a two-run single from outfielder Andrew Guillotte, the Lugnuts took a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Fortunately for the Hot Rods, Ramirez settled down and kept the Hot Rods in the game. Bowling Green got a quality start from the 20-year-old righty, as Ramirez tossed six innings while giving up those three runs while striking out five batters.

As Ramirez kept the Hot Rods in the game on the mound, catcher David Rodriguez single-handedly kept the Hot Rods in the game at the plate.

Starting things off with a solo homer in the second inning, Rodriguez came through with a RBI double in the fourth inning to cut the Hot Rods deficit to one. To cap off his night, the 20-year-old hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning tie things up at 3-3 and ultimately send the game to extra innings.

The multi-homer game for Rodriguez was the first for any Hot Rods player this season. Rodriguez has also now homered in each of his last two games.

As the game went to the eleventh inning, Rodriguez started things off with a leadoff walk. After he was retired on a fielders choice on a grounder from Manny Sanchez, an errant pickoff throw from Lansing reliever Josh DeGraaf (L, 2-2) moved Sanchez all the way to third. Two batters later, outfielder Zacrey Law roped a ball down the left-field line to plate Sanchez and give the Hot Rods the victory.

On the pitching side, the Hot Rods got five scoreless innings of relief from Armando Bastardo and Diego Castillo, who struck out four batters in the final two innings to improve to 1-2 on the year with the win.

The victory for the Hot Rods was their first via a walkoff this year and also clinched a fifth straight series win for Bowling Green. They are now a season-high four games over .500.

The Hot Rods will try to complete the sweep Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark with the final game of a three-game series against the Lansing Lugnuts. The Hot Rods will send RHP Henry Centeno to the mound while the Lugnuts will counter with LHP Tayler Saucedo.

First pitch is scheduled at 10:35 a.m.
