Great Lakes Loons News Release

Fort Wayne, Indiana - The Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the Great Lakes Loons 2-1 in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday night at Parkview Field, but rain and flash flood warnings forced the postponement of the second scheduled game.

As a result, the Loons (11-17) and TinCaps (18-13) play a doubleheader Wednesday to conclude the stormy three-game set. First pitch is set for 11:05 a.m., the start time originally scheduled and the second game will follow after a 30-minute intermission. Each game is seven innings.

The initial game of the doubleheader progressed rapidly; the first four innings played in under an hour. In the fifth, Loons left fielder Deivy Castillo misplayed a fly ball off the bat of right-handed hitter Mason Smith. The two base error placed a runner in scoring position for Fort Wayne lefty Peter Van Gansen, who singled to left and lit the lamp for the TinCaps with one out in the inning.

The unearned run continued a trend of poor defense with right-handed starter Dennis Santana (L, 0-4) on the hill. The 20-year-old pitched a season-long 5.1 innings and allowed five hits, two runs, one earned run, three walks and struck out six. He also hit a batter. Of the 13 runs allowed on Santana's watch this season, six are unearned.

Great Lakes rallied to tie the game in the sixth when righty Logan Landon smoked a line-drive double to left field to score Cristian Gomez from second. Landon registered his second consecutive multi-hit game after a stretch of 22 days without multiple hits in a contest.

Landon knocked his double off righty reliever Trey Wingenter (W, 1-0) and blew Wingenter's save opportunity. The Loons left runners on second and third base to end the inning and failed to take the lead. Great Lakes has provided Santana six runs of support in his five starts this season.

The TinCaps answered in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single to left by righty Michael Gettys, his second hit of the game. Pinch-runner Kodie Tidwell scored the winning run from second. Wingenter retired the Loons in order in the top of the seventh.

Tuesday's doubleheader begins a seven-game road trip for the Loons, their longest of the season to date. The Loons are 1-9 outside Dow Diamond in 2016. The team returns to Midland on Tuesday, May 17 to open an eight-game homestand, including a doubleheader against the Lansing Lugnuts on Friday, May 20.

The Great Lakes Loons have been a Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007 and are in their 10th season in 2016. For tickets and more information about the Loons, call 989-837-BALL or visit Loons.com.
