West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - The West Michigan Whitecaps were the victim of one big inning as they lost to the Lake County Captains 4-2 Tuesday night at Classic Park.
After the Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead on a fourth inning RBI-double by Will Allen, the Captains struck for heavy damage in the sixth. West Michigan starting pitcher Sandy Baez (0-4) pitched into the inning having thrown five scoreless frames, but would not record another out in the contest. Five straight Captains hitters reached base to begin the inning, as four of them scored in the frame. Run-scoring singles from Willi Castro, Tyler Krieger and Francisco Mejia highlighted the frame to give Lake County all the offense they needed, and a 4-1 lead.
Captains starter Thomas Pannone (3-2) earned his third win for allowing just one 'Caps run in six frames. Baez gave up all four runs in five innings to take his fourth loss, and is still looking for his first win in five starts. Matt Whitehouse retired the last four Whitecaps hitters to pick up his second save. The win improves Lake County's league-best record to 20-12 this season, while the 'Caps fall to 15-14. Will Allen led the Whitecaps offense by going 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and two walks.
