Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - David Rodriguez's second home run of the game forced extra innings before Zacrey Law's first hit of the game won it in the eleventh, pushing the Bowling Green Hot Rods (18-14) to a 4-3 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (16-13) on Tuesday night at Bowling Green ballpark.
Rodriguez went 3-for-4 in the game, bringing the Hot Rods back from an early 3-0 deficit with a solo homer in the second inning and an RBI double in the fourth off starter Ryan Cook, and a first-pitch, game-tying home run in the ninth off Josh DeGraaf.
In the bottom of the eleventh, DeGraaf (Loss, 2-2) walked Rodriguez before erasing him on Manny Sanchez's fielder's choice to shortstop. DeGraaf attempted to pick Sanchez off first base, but threw the ball away, bouncing down the right field line as the Hot Rods base runner sped to third.
After an intentional walk of Peter Maris, Law pulled a sizzling grounder down the third base line to plate Sanchez and end the game.
Lansing scored all of its runs in the second inning against Bowling Green starter Roel Ramirez, thanks to a bases-loaded walk issued to a Jake Anderson and a two-run single by Andrew Guillotte.
Ramirez held the Lugs off the board for the remainder of his six-inning stint, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out five.
The Lugnuts threatened against reliever Armando Bastardo in the seventh, ending in a controversial call. With two runners aboard and two outs, Gunnar Heidt grounded a single into right field. Josh Almonte attempted to score from second base, but he was thrown out at the plate by Manny Sanchez. Lugs manager John Schneider was ejected in the ensuing conversation with home plate umpire Jose Matamoros, Schneider's second ejection of the year.
Bowling Green reliever Diego Castillo (Win, 1-2) pitched two perfect innings of relief, striking out four.
Lansing and Bowling Green close out their three-game series at 11:35 a.m. ET on Wednesday, with Lugnuts left-hander Tayler Saucedo (1-3, 4.88) taking on Hot Rods right-hander Henry Centeno (3-0, 0.96).
The Lansing Lugnuts return home on a Labatt Thirsty Thursday Gone Wild: WrestleMania! featuring an appearance from wrestling superstar Rhino, plus $2 beers and half-off craft brews!
