Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Justin Lopez launched a two-run homer to right-center field in the sixth inning to lift the TinCaps over the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays), 3-2, on Tuesday night at Parkview Field. The 'Caps have won four consecutive games, including two in a row against the team with the best record in the Midwest League this season.
Fort Wayne (4-2, 36-39) broke the scoring seal in the bottom of the fifth. Shortstop Gabriel Arias led off the inning with a single. Two batters later, third baseman Luis Almanzar lofted an opposite-field double down the right-field line to plate Arias from third, and the TinCaps led, 1-0.
Bowling Green (3-3, 50-25) didn't waste any time to respond in the top of the sixth. Taylor Walls led off the inning by hammering a ball to left field to tie the game, 1-1. But that was the only run the visitors got against Aaron Leasher, who went six innings. Leasher struck out six and worked around six hits and three walks.
Lopez's go-ahead homer came with two outs and left fielder Robbie Podorsky aboard via an infield single. For Lopez, 18, the league's youngest player, it was his fifth home run (all coming since May 2), and his second in the last three games.
Caleb Boushley followed Leasher with two scoreless innings. Though Travis Radke allowed a solo homer to Ronaldo Hernandez that made it a one-run game, he recovered to earn the save-his 10th of the season, which ranks third in the league. Radke was working after he tossed two scoreless innings in Monday's win.
On Wednesday afternoon, the TinCaps will have a chance to be the first team to sweep Bowling Green since South Bend did April 9-12.
