Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Jake Blackwood yanked a game-winning single down the left-field line in the tenth inning to send the TinCaps to a 2-1 win over the Dayton Dragons, Friday at Parkview Field. TinCaps pitchers struck out 15.

It was a pitchers' duel early as Fort Wayne RHP Matt Branham struck out the first five batters he faced and didn't allow a hit until Theo Bowe's two-out single in the third inning. He took a nodecision despite firing six innings, allowing a run on two hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.

Each team scored in the fifth inning. Jaren Matthews drew a one-out walk for Dayton, stole second and scored on a single by Tucker Barnhart.

The TinCaps rebounded in the bottom of the frame as Wes Cunningham reached on a leadoff infield single and went to second when the throw to first was errant. After a groundout, Oscar Garcia drilled an RBI single to center to tie the game at 1-1.

Fort Wayne had a big opportunity in the ninth, with the winning run at second with one out, but couldn't come up with the big hit.

In the tenth, Chris Bisson drew a walk. Rymer Liriano hit a grounder to third and the throw to second was wild, allowing Bisson to race to third. That set the stage for Blackwood, who singled down the left-field line to drive in Bisson with the winning run.

Fort Wayne RHP Matt Jackson (3-0) picked up the win, delivering four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts; Dayton LHP Ezequiel Infante (0-2) took the loss.

Fort Wayne upped its record to 14-22; Dayton fell to 18-18.

The TinCaps continue the three-game series against the Dayton Dragons (Class-A Cincinnati Reds) Saturday at 5:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Adys Portillo (0-5) takes the mound against Dayton RHP Josh Smith (2-3).
