Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - Greg Billo pitched eight innings and didn't allow a hit until until the sixth as the Kane County Cougars spun a four hit, 4-0 shutout of the Peoria Chiefs in front of 8,355, the largest crowd to date this season at Elfstrom Stadium.

Alex Llanos' RBI single in the Cougars' third would score Julio Aparicio with the game's first run and Llanos would later thwart a Chiefs rally throwing out Anthony Giansanti at the plate in the eighth from centerfield. Guelin Beltre stroked his first home run of the year on the first pitch of the fifth inning and Llanos' sacrifice fly later in the frame plated Murray Watts extending the Kane County advantage to 3-0. Beltre's eighth inning single turned into the game's final tally with Julio Aparicio collecting an RBI single.

Billo lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.57, striking out four while surrendering just one base of balls through his eight innings of work. Chas Byrne pitched a scoreless ninth as the Cougars won for the third time in four games on this homestand.

Game two of this series is slated for 6 PM on Saturday as RHP Leonel Santiago will face Chiefs lefty Cam Greathouse.

Pre-game coverage begins at 5:45 PM on 1280, WBIG and on-line via KCCougars.com.
