Geneva, IL - The Peoria Chiefs were shutout for the first time in 2011 in a 4-0 loss to in-state rival Kane County Friday night in game one of a three-game series against the Cougars. With the loss the Chiefs are now 19-16 on the season and 3-1 against the Cougars. Graham Hicks and Greg Billo each kept the opposition off the board in the first two innings before Kane County broke through in the third. With one out, Julio Aparicio delivered his fourth double of the season to left. Aparicio moved to third on a groundout to second and scored on a single by Alex Llanos for a 1-0 Cougars lead. The Chiefs got their first base runner in the fourth when Pierre LePage was hit by a pitch to start the inning. LePage was sacrificed to second but did not move any further as Billo struck out Greg Rohan and Richard Jones bounced out to short. The Chiefs put two on in the fifth inning as Micah Gibbs led off with a walk and Arismendy Alcantara reached on a one-out error. But again Billo was able to escape trouble as Smaily Borges popped out and DJ Fitzgerald struck out. After Hicks hit his pitch count, Su-Min Jung gave up a pair of runs in his second inning of work. Geulin Beltre led off the fifth inning with a solo home run, his first of the season. With Kane County leading 2-0, Murray Watts singled and Aparicio advanced him to second with a single to left. A wild pitch advanced both runners into scoring position and after a groundout, Llanos made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly. The Chiefs got their first hit of the game in the sixth inning when Rubi Silva singled to second before Rohan bounced into a double play. Peoria got another single in the seventh from Elliot Soto but he didn't advance. With one out in the eighth Giansanti doubled off the wall in left and Silva singled up the middle with two outs. Giansanti rounded third to score the Chiefs first run but Llanos threw a one-hop strike to the plate from centerfield and Ryan Jenkins applied the tag to end the inning. Kane County finished the scoring in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Marcus Hatley. After two quick outs, Beltre singled to right and stole second. Watts worked a walk and Aparicio made it 4-0 with his third hit of the game, a single to left. Hatley retired Michael Liberto to strand two runners but the Chiefs were down 4-0. Hicks (0-2) allowed one on four hits over three innings of work. He did not allow a walk, nor did he record a strikeout. Jung allowed two runs on four hits over four innings of work while striking out one and walking two. Hatley allowed one run on two hits and a walk in one inning of work.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Rubi Silva (CF) - Silva had two of the Chiefs' four hits with singles in the sixth and eighth inning. He now has a nine-game hit streak and eight multi-hit games after going 2-for-3 with a sac bunt.
