Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The TinCaps matched a franchise record for consecutive wins Wednesday night, as they beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 4-1, at Bowling Green Ballpark for their 10th victory in a row.
Fort Wayne previously won 10 consecutive games twice in 2009, a year the club went on to win the Midwest League title. That year the TinCaps won 10 straight games from April 9-19 and July 1-10. The franchise's history goes back to 1993.
The TinCaps remain 3 1/2 games ahead of West Michigan for first place in the Eastern Division and 7 games in front of third-place South Bend with 19 games left in the regular season. The top two teams at season's end will make the Midwest League Playoffs.
Dinelson Lamet (W, 5-6) pitched six shutout innings as he limited the Hot Rods to three hits and no walks. The No. 14 Padres prospect struck out five, including all three batters he faced in the fifth on 11 pitches.
Fort Wayne (34-17, 66-53) was powered offensively by right fielder Edwin Moreno, who had three of the team's seven hits. The TinCaps loaded the bases against Bowling Green starter Brad Wallace (L, 2-4) in the top of the second inning. Catcher Jose Ruiz grounded into a double play that brought home Trae Santos to make it 1-0. Moreno then hit an RBI double off the wall in dead-center field.
With Fort Wayne up 2-0 in the fourth, Moreno launched a two-out, two-run homer to right field -- his fourth of the season and his second in three games.
Taylor Cox worked the seventh inning, while Colby Blueberg (S, 17) put up zeroes in the final two frames.
Bowling Green (25-26, 63-58) scored its lone run in the seventh.
The TinCaps can set a franchise record for consecutive wins on Thursday in the finale of their three-game series at Bowling Green. Fort Wayne is set to start right-hander Ernesto Montas (10-6, 3.53) against Henry Centeno (7-7, 3.47). The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1380, TinCaps.com, and the TuneIn Radio app.
