COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps busted out the brooms to complete a three-game sweep with a late rally to defeat the Great Lakes Loons 6-4 Thursday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

Great Lakes took their first lead of the series on an RBI-single by Brian Wolfe in the opening inning to give the Loons a 1-0 advantage. After tying the game in the third, West Michigan took a 2-1 lead when a fly ball by Will Kengor down the left field line glanced off the glove of a diving Wolfe to score Christin Stewart. Kengor nearly scored on the play, as Great Lakes actively contested the ball having been ruled fair by home plate umpire Jesse Orozco, but Wolfe threw the 'Caps first baseman out at home plate. An inning later, Wolfe laced a two-run single to right to give the Loons a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, Stewart ripped an RBI-double through a drawn-in infield into the right field corner, and scored later in the frame on a two-run double by Francisco Contreras to give the Whitecaps a 6-3 lead. Wolfe added a run-scoring double in the ninth before Joe Jimenez struck out Nick Sell to finish off the three-game sweep.

Dominic Moreno (1-1) picked up his first Whitecaps win in relief after tossing two scoreless innings, while J.D. Underwood (4-2) suffered his second loss of the season. Jimenez allowed a run in the ninth, but finished the inning to record his 15th save of the year. The Whitecaps improve to 31-20 in the second half and a season-best 64-56 overall. Great Lakes watches their second half mark fall to 22-30, with a 60-60 record on the year. Contreras and Simcox led the Whitecaps with two hits apiece.
