Perez Key in Bees' Win over LumberKings

(Burlington-IA)- The Burlington Bees (54-67) defeated the Clinton LumberKings (38-83), 3-2 in the finale of a three game series, Thursday night, at Community Field.

Ayendy Perez extended his hitting streak to four games, smashing a one out single to right, in the bottom of the third inning. After Perez moved to second on a wild pitch, David Fletcher grounded out to second, moving Perez to third base. For the first time in the series, the Bees took the lead first when Perez came home to score on a Eddie Campbell wild pitch, putting the Bees on top, 1-0.

Leading 1-0 in the fifth inning, Natanael Delgado and Trever Allen opened the frame with two straight singles. Nick Flair put down a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error, loading the bases. Ayendy Perez's big series continued, smacking a single to center, scoring two runs, upping the Bees' lead to 3-0.

Clinton went on to send seven batters to the plate in the top of the seventh inning, scoring a pair of runs thanks to a Chris Mariscal single, scoring Brock Hebert, and a wild pitch, scoring Mariscal, cutting the Bees' lead to 3-2.

Relievers' Alex Klonowski and Jordan Piche combined to throw 2.2 scoreless innings, holding of the LumberKings for the 3-2 win, taking the series finale.

Bees' starter, Michael Bolaski (9-9) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two runs, earning his team leading ninth win. Clinton starter Eddie Campbell (1-2) was charged with the loss and Jordan Piche (5) picked up the save. The Bees hit the road to start a three game series with the Beloit Snappers on Friday night at 6:30. Keynan Middleton makes the start for the Bees against Brett Graves for Beloit.
