Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Everett Williams hit two of the TinCaps' four home runs in an 8-2 romp over the Lansing Lugnuts, Saturday at Cooley Law School Stadium. Jedd Gyorko drove in three runs and clocked his first TinCaps home run.

Fort Wayne is now 8-1 in Lansing this year. The four home runs tie a season high set last week, also in Lansing.

The TinCaps fell behind in the first inning on Brad Glenn's two-run single, but the pitching staff took over from there. LHP Jose De Paula was dominant in four innings of shutout duty, striking out six to pick up the win.

Fort Wayne tied it in the third inning on Williams' first home run of the night, a drive that snuck over the right-field wall.

Dean Anna hit a round-tripper in the fifth to put the TinCaps ahead. The next inning, Gyorko blasted a no-doubter over the left-field wall to lead off the inning.

In the seventh, Jason Hagerty drove in a run with a groundout to make it 5-2.

The TinCaps put it away in the top of the ninth. Williams led off with a high drive over the wall in left-center. Then, with the bases loaded and two outs, Gyorko lined a two-run single to right to finish the scoring.

De Paula (8-3) was the winning pitcher; Lansing RHP Ryan Shopshire (7-11) took the loss and RHP Jackson Quezada notched his second save.

Fort Wayne improved its record to 30-18 in the half, 66-52 for the season. The Lugnuts fell to 24- 24 in the second half, 60-57 for the year.

The TinCaps continue the three-game road series against the Lugnuts (Class-A Toronto Blue Jays) Sunday at 2:05 p.m. Fort Wayne LHP Pedro Hernandez (3-3) draws the start against Lansing RHP Matt Fields (4-6).
