
Kernels fall to Timber Rattlers, 6-5, in 11 innings

Appleton, WI - The Cedar Rapids Kernels dropped the first game of a three game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by the score of 6-5 in 11 innings on Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Hunter Morris delivered a two run double off David Carpenter (2-4) to score Kentrail Davis with the tying run and Khris Davis from first with the winning run.
The Kernels tied the game in the eighth as Eric Oliver doubled and scored on a wild pitch by Santo Manzanillo. They took the lead in the top of the 11th in similar fashion as Jose Jimenez walked and was replaced by pinch runner Terrell Alliman. Alliman was sacrificed to second by Michael Demperio and moved to third on a single by Jean Segura. Alliman scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch by Adrian Rosario (2-0).
Jean Segura finished the night 3-6 as Matt Long was 2-4 and Michael Wing went 2-6 with a double. Jon Karcich hit a two run homer in the fourth inning off Wisconsin starter Hiram Burgos and Eric Oliver was 1-2 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
Kernels starter Buddy Boshers gave up three runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out eight over five innings in a no-decision effort. Yeison Almedia and Young-Il Jung both worked an inning of relief. Cutter Dykstra was 3-6 with three doubles and an RBI and Cameron Garfield was 2-5 for Wisconsin.
The second game in this three game series between the Kernels and Timber Rattlers is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm from Time Warner Cable Field.
