Late Errors Hand Game to Snappers

Clinton LumberKings News Release
Beloit, WI - A tight 2-1 game suddenly slipped away as Beloit utilized three Clinton errors in a five-run seventh to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Daniel Carroll homered in the eighth, but the LumberKings still dropped the series-opener, 7-2 to the Snappers at Pohlman Field.
Beloit's Danny Rams singled and scored on a sacrifice fly in the second inning and then blasted a solo homer to straightaway center in the fourth as the Snappers built a 2-1 lead. Luis Nunez had legged out an infield single to score James Jones, temporarily tying the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.
The game stayed that way as left-hander Nick Czyz (L, 3-4) pitched scoreless baseball in the fifth and sixth. He'd exit with just two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings. Right-hander Steven Pryor came on to start the seventh and immediately ran into trouble.
Pryor hit Daniel Santana with an 0-2 pitch, then misfired to first base on bunt dropped down by Yorby Martinez. That error led directly to Santana scoring for a 3-1 Beloit lead. Wang Wei Lin bunted for a base hit down the third-base line to put runners on the corners, and an error on another bunted ball by Reggie Williams sent Martinez home.
The Snappers added two more runs on RBI singles by James Beresford and Rams to open a six-run lead. Carroll would homer to right-center off right-hander Miguel Munoz in the top of the eighth, but Clinton would get no closer.
Beloit left-hander Martire Garcia (W, 1-0) limited the Kings to just a run on six hits over 5.1 innings. Right-hander Brad Stillings (H, 1), Munoz (H, 2) and left-hander Sam Spangler combined for just one run over the final 3.2 innings.
Nunez finished 2-for-4 with an RBI in the losing effort for the LumberKings. Gabriel Noriega extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a 1-for-4 game.
Rams keyed the Beloit offense with a 2-for-3 game including the home run - his 14th - and two RBI.
The LumberKings (25-22) and the Snappers (24-21) continue the series tomorrow at Pohlman Field, game time scheduled for 2:00 PM. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (9-4, 2.51) will make his 19th start for Clinton. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
