ABOUT LAST GAME: The TinCaps beat Wisconsin, 5-4, in dramatic fashion. Fort Wayne trailed 4-2 with two outs and no one on base in the top of the ninth inning. Edwin Moreno hit a pinch-hit double with a 2-2 count. Then Ruddy Giron, behind 0-2, lined a single to score Moreno. The Timber Rattlers brought in Josh Uhen and the first pitch he threw, Franchy Cordero hit over the fence in left-center field.
A WIN WOULD: Be Fort Wayne's second in a row... Give the TinCaps their fourth consecutive series win... Mean a 4-2 road trip.
CLUTCH CORDERO: Since May 7, Franchy Cordero has hit four home runs, but none was more clutch than his blast on Sunday. Cordero also singled in the game. He has exactly two hits in four of five games on this road trip.
DOUBLE THE PLEASURE: All-Star outfielder Nick Torres hit his Midwest League-leading 18th double of the season on Sunday. As a team, the TinCaps have the third most doubles in the league (108). Lansing and Quad Cities both have hit 113.
DRAFT DAY MEMORIES: With the First-Year Player Draft beginning tonight, memories abound for 14 of Fort Wayne's 25 players were selected out of either high school (2) or college (12). Pitching coach Burt Hooton was taken second overall in 1971 by the Cubs. Hitting coach Lance Burkhart went to the Expos in the 15th round in '97.
MUSTACHE YOU A QUESTION: No, TinCaps players didn't leave their razors behind in Fort Wayne. But, yes, members of the Fort Wayne bullpen have collectively decided to sport mustaches. Some position players have joined in, too. In unrelated news, Hall of Fame pitcher Rollie Fingers will be at Parkview Field on Monday, June 29.
UP NEXT: The TinCaps are off on Tuesday and then have a six-game homestand at Parkview Field with three against the Kane County Cougars followed by three against the Clinton LumberKings.
