Trahan Slams in Cougars' Win
June 8, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill.- Driving in six runs is something a Cougar has not done in over three years. That was until Stryker Trahan homered twice in the Kane County Cougars (30-28) big 11-3 win over the Dayton Dragons (30-28) Monday evening at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
The Cougar catcher struck out with the bases loaded in the first inning, but quickly made up for it with his next trips to the plate. With the Dragons leading 1-0 in the third inning, the Cougars loaded the bases on singles from Ildemaro Vargas and Cody Regis followed by a walk to Colin Bray. Trahan then belted his ninth home run of the year in grand slam fashion over the right field wall for a 4-1 Cougar lead.
The slugger's next blast came two innings later with the Cougars' lead down to one. Bray kept the inning alive with a two-out single and set the table for Trahan's second homer of the day. The Diamondbacks' 2012 first round draft pick retook the team lead with 36 RBI on the year.
The offense never tailed off in the ballgame as the Cougars paced 17 hits for 11 runs. The home team batted around in the sixth inning and received RBI knocks from Chuck Taylor, Bray and a two-run single from Cody Regis on his 24th birthday. Marty Herum added an RBI groundout in the seventh.
All-Star Ethan Elias (6-2) became the first pitcher on the Cougars to reach six wins with five innings of two-earned run baseball. Troy Marks tossed three innings of scoreless relief before Steve Hathaway sealed the game with a scoreless ninth.
Tyler Mahle (5-4) suffered the loss with four innings and giving up the grand slam.
The Cougars will enjoy an off day before beginning a six-game road trip to the Eastern Division. Wednesday's contest will feature the first matchup of the Cougars and Fort Wayne Tin Caps of 2015.
