Dayton Dragons News Release
Geneva, Ill.-Kane County's Stryker Trahan belted two home runs including a grand slam and drove in six runs to lead the Cougars to an 11-3 win over the Dayton Dragons on Monday night. The Cougars swept the three-game series, collecting 27 runs on 44 hits in the three games.
The Dragons fell to three games out of the wildcard spot with 12 games to play in the first half season. Bowling Green leads the wildcard race with Great Lakes trailing by one and one-half games.
The Dragons led 1-0 when Trahan belted his first home run of the night with three men on base in the third inning to make it 4-1. The Dragons responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth when Ronald Bueno delivered a two-run single with two outs to make it 4-3. But Trahan hit another homer in the fifth, a two-run shot that was his 10th of the year, to make it 6-3. The Cougars broke the game open with four runs in the sixth and added one more in the seventh.
Dragons starting pitcher Tyler Mahle (5-4) suffered the loss. He allowed four runs in four innings (all coming on Trahan's grand slam), giving up five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The Dragons collected eight hits. Gavin LaValley was 2 for 3 to extend his hitting streak to 12 straight games. LaValley went 13 for 24 (.542) on the six-game road trip.
The Dragons went 3-3 on the road trip, winning the first three games at Clinton and losing the last three at Kane County.
The Dragons (30-28) do not play on Tuesday. They will open a six-game homestand at Fifth Third Field in Dayton on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (18-40). Wyatt Strahan (4-4, 2.73) will start for the Dragons on Wednesday.
All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.
Notes: On Monday morning, the Midwest League named Mahle as the league's Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 1-7. Mahle worked seven shutout innings on Wednesday to earn a win against Clinton, allowing two hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.
