West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Cedar Rapids Kernels pitcher Jared Wilson kept the West Michigan offense quiet as they defeated the Whitecaps 4-2 Monday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.
West Michigan stormed out to a 2-0 lead after Joey Pankake ripped an RBI-single to left field, then scored on Jared Wilson's wild pitch in the fourth inning. Cedar Rapids answered with a run on Nick Gordon's RBI-single in the sixth, and Blake Schmit's two-run double against 'Caps starter Ross Seaton in the seventh to give Cedar Rapids a 3-2 lead. Brian Navarreto followed with a run-scoring single to chase Seaton from the contest, and give the Kernels an insurance run at 4-2.
Wilson (5-1) picked up his fifth win with six innings of two-run baseball while striking out four. Seaton (5-3) gave up four runs in 6.2 innings in suffering his fourth loss. Trevor Hildenberger pitched a scoreless ninth while striking out two to earn his sixth save of the season. The Whitecaps fall to 29-29, while the Kernels improve to 36-22 on the season.
