Rain Cancels Series Finale for Bandits, Cubs
June 8, 2015 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (June 8, 2015) - Rain at Four Winds Field cancelled Monday's game between the Quad Cities River Bandits and South Bend Cubs. The game will not be made up, as the teams are not scheduled to play each other again this season.
Monday marked the first cancellation for the River Bandits since April 2014, when three rainouts in six days caused Quad Cities and Clinton to lose one contest to weather. Quad Cities has made up two rain-postponed home games with doubleheaders against Burlington and Peoria. The cancellation was the second of the season for South Bend, which had its May 31 game in Lake County cancelled.
The River Bandits (39-18) will keep at least a share of the best record in professional baseball through Monday. Before Monday night's Midwest League games, Quad Cities' magic number (combination of Quad Cities wins and losses by the third-place team in the Western Division) needed to clinch a first-half playoff spot was three. A loss by Kane County (29-28) would lower the magic number to two. Second-place Cedar Rapids (35-22) was four games behind Quad Cities before its game Monday at West Michigan.
By splitting the first two games against South Bend (26-30), the River Bandits denied South Bend a seventh consecutive season series victory in their interdivisional meetings. Quad Cities also remained unbeaten in 10 road series this season and finished 5-4 with one cancellation in a season-long 10-game road stretch.
After the final off day of the first half for the entire Midwest League Tuesday, the River Bandits open a six-game homestand with Eastern Division opponents on Wednesday against the Lansing Lugnuts (34-24). In the opener of a three-game series between the first-place teams, River Bandits right-hander Austin Chrismon (4-1) is scheduled to face Lugnuts right-hander Starlyn Suriel (3-3).
UP NEXT: To celebrate the first 300 major leaguers who have appeared for the Quad Cities Midwest League franchise, general admission tickets are $3.00 each for Wednesday's 7 p.m. game. Gates open at 6 p.m. for Jurassic Park Night, with all-you-can-ride amusement passes just $10 each! The game is Mack Orthodontics Patient Appreciation Night and a Pay Your Bill Wednesday presented by Mix 96. Two bills will be selected from a drawing and paid up to $100 by the River Bandits. IHMVCU members can get buy-one-get-one free tickets. Individual tickets are on sale at the River Bandits box office and online at riverbandits.com.
