LAST NIGHT: The TinCaps spoiled the Lugnuts' home opener with an 8-4 win. After having only 1 extra-base hit in their first 2 games, the 'Caps erupted for 5, including a 420-foot Dwanya Williams-Sutton solo home run and a 3-run shot by Luis Almanzar. On the hill, starter Joey Cantillo struck out 8 in 4.1 IP.

FOREVER YOUNG: The average age for a TinCaps position player thus far has been 20.1, the youngest in the Midwest League (league average: 21.1). The average age for a 'Caps pitcher is 20.7, also the youngest in the MWL (league average: 21.1). Fort Wayne has had the most youthful lineup in the circuit each of the previous 5 years going back to 2014. The TinCaps had the youngest pitching staff in the league in 2016 and ranked tied for 2nd youngest in '18, 2nd youngest in '17, '13, and '12. According to Baseball America, Justin Lopez is the 5th youngest player in the league right now at 18.

- SPECIAL MOMENT: Threw a no-hitter on March 17, 2018 against Pitt-Johnstown... A week before, one of his aunts had passed away; the funeral was the day before his start... On the day of the funeral, Gabe's cousin told him, "You're going to throw a no-hitter tomorrow"... Gabe said it was a "very emotional" day... During that start, he had a coin in back-pocket with aunt's initials on it and a guardian angel

- DRAFT DAY: Got a call from a teammate, Cash Gladfelter, saying that the teammate was going to be drafted. Gabe went inside to watch Cash's name appear online, and instead, seven picks before Gladfelter went to the Mariners, Gabe saw his own name on the MLB Draft tracker when he was selected by the Padres in the 27th round

- MISCELLANEOUS: As a kid, took after his dad by rooting for the Red Sox... Big leaguer he grew up most admiring: Bryce Harper... Both of his parents were influential in raising him as a ballplayer - his mom used to pitch to him in the backyard when he was a little kid... In high school, he not only pitched, but also caught (he originally asked his parents for catching gear at the age of 5)... Favorite shows: "The Office," "New Girl," "White Collar"... Favorite movies: "Shooter," "Wonder Woman"... Hobbies: Hunting, Fishing... Favorite meal: Steak & Mashed Potatoes... If not a professional baseball player, would want to be a professional gamer

- OFFSEASON: Worked at UPS as a supervisor (overseeing trucks being loaded with packages)... Also worked out at Made Strength and Performance... Added about 10 pounds in offseason to get up to 190 pounds

- SUPERSTITIONS: On way to mound, jumps over base-line by jumping off right foot & landing on left... On mound, swipes dirt starting & ending with right foot... After last swipe, turns around and then wipes rubber off... Hates odd numbers (for example: on a TV, always puts volume setting at an even number)
