FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but could not plate the tying run in a 4-3 loss to the South Bend Silver Hawks, Sunday at Parkview Field. Daniel Meeley went 2-for-4 with a double.

Fort Wayne went 3-for-14 with runners in scoring position, leaving a dozen runners on base.

TinCaps LHP Jose De Paula gave up a pair of runs in six innings, both on solo home runs. Bobby Borchering slugged a round-tripper in the third and David Narodowski popped a home run in the fourth inning to put South Bend ahead, 2-0.

In the fifth, Danny Payne roped a two-out double and scored when Jonathan Galvez reached on an infield single and the throw was errant.

The TinCaps tied it in the sixth. Nate Freiman led off with a double. Two batters later, Meeley lined a single to center. Freiman raced to the plate, bowled over South Bend catcher Tyson Van Winkle, jarring the ball loose to score the tying run.

South Bend again came through with late-inning runs. In the eighth, Borchering's double put runners at second and third with nobody out. Matt Davidson, the league leader in RBIs, roped a two-run double to left to put the Silver Hawks ahead, 4-2.

Edinson Rincon slammed a leadoff homer to left-center in the bottom of the eighth to make it 4- 3, but could score no more despite a Meeley walk which put the tying run on base.

In the ninth, Payne drew a leadoff walk and Jonathan Galvez bunted him to second. Jason Hagerty reached on an error to put runners at the corners. Two batters later, a Rincon walk loaded the bases, but Meeley lined to the center fielder to end the game.

Silver Hawks RHP Adam Worthington (2-2) notched the win; Fort Wayne RHP Miles Mikolas (4- 2) took the loss. RHP Yonata Ortega converted his 18th save.

Fort Wayne fell to 8-9 in the half, 44-43 for the season. South Bend improved to 8-9 in the second half, 38-47 for the year.

The TinCaps finish the three-game series against the Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks) Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne LHP Pedro Hernandez (2-3) goes to the hill against Silver Hawks RHP Brad Gemberling (2-5).
