Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Jake Odorizzi and Khris Davis continued their domination of the Burlington Bees. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers duo led the team to a 4-1 victory over the Bees Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. Odorizzi, the starting pitcher, tossed seven shutout innings and struck out nine. Davis hit a pair of home runs in his three hits against the Bees.
Scooter Gennett put the Rattlers (8-9 second half, 34-51 overall) in front with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning against Burlington starter Tyler Sample. That was more than enough for Odorizzi.
The Rattlers right-hander worked around a leadoff walk in the second and a leadoff double in the fifth to protect that 2-0 lead.
Davis hit his first homer of the game to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. He drilled the first pitch of the at bat versus reliever Sam Runion into the Burlington bullpen past the wall in left-center and the Rattlers were up 3-0.
The Bees (8-8, 30-55) threatened in the seventh against Odorizzi. Burlington loaded the bases on a walk, a single, and another single. Odorizzi got out of the jam with his ninth strikeout of the game and a fly out to right.
In the eighth inning against reliever Caleb Thielbar, Carlo Testa homered off the foul pole in right field to get the Bees to within 3-1.
Davis answered with one out in the bottom of the eighth. He lined a 2-1 pitch from Scott Kelley just over the wall in left field and the Rattlers were up 4-1. Davis, who is the first Rattler with a multi-homer game this season, has 15 home runs in 2010.
Thielbar walked the leadoff batter in the top of the ninth, but retired the next three batters to nail down the win and his third save of the season.
Odorizzi is 3-0 in four starts against the Bees this season. He has allowed one run and struck out 35 in 25 innings in those four starts against Burlington.
Davis has hit six of his 15 home runs against the Bees in 2010. In 15 games against the Bees this season, Davis is 26-for-59 (.440) with 14 RBI.
The Timber Rattlers and Bees wrap up their series Monday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. Kyle Heckathorn (6-5, 2.48) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Keaton Hayenga (1-6, 8.23) is set to go for Burlington. Game time is 12:05pm.
If you can't make it out to the game, you may tune into the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM. The Miller Lite Pregame Show starts at 11:45am.
