Great Lakes Loons News Release
DAYTON, OH - Rubby de la Rosa threw a career-high eight innings, limiting Dayton to three hits and one run in the Great Lakes Loons 3-1 win over the Dragons Sunday afternoon.
De la Rosa (3-1) struck out six and didn't walk anyone. He was perfect through 3 2/3 innings and faced just one over the minimum in his eight frames. His only blemish was a two-out solo home run to Alex Oliveras in the seventh inning, routinely hitting 95-plus miles per hour on the radar gun with his fastball.
Steve Ames struck out three in the ninth inning, allowing just an infield hit, for his fifth save of the year.
Christian Lara led off the game with a sharp single up the middle on the game's first pitch. After a wild pitch by starter J.C. Sulbaran (4-5), Nick Buss reached on a bunt single to third. Third baseman Kevyn Feiner's throw was errant, allowing Lara to score the game's first run. Later in the sixth with two runners on, Brian Cavazos-Galvez blasted a deep drive down the left field line that was just foul and Dayton managed to get out of the inning without further damage.
Cavazos-Galvez got his revenge in the sixth with a two-run home run off the concession stand in left field that proved to be the difference in the game.
The Loons have now won 11 of their last 12 games and improve to 57-29, the best record in full season affiliated Minor League Baseball and a league-best 14-3 in the second half. They conclude their series in Dayton Monday evening at 7pm against the Dragons (37-49, 7-10). Right-hander Josh Wall (5-4, 3.45 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons against Dayton righty Jacob Johnson (4-5, 4.98). The game will be broadcast on ESPN 100.9-FM and online at Loons.com.
