Geneva, IL - Left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney was flat out untouchable for most of his seven innings of work on Sunday at Kane County, allowing just one hit and one walk while tying a career-high with eight strikeouts in Clinton's 6-2 win over the Cougars.

Gillheeney (W, 7-6) yielded a two-out double to Anthony Aliotti in the first inning, but then set down 16-straight batters before issuing his only walk of the game to Tyreace House to lead off the seventh. He'd make quick work of House, gathering Rashun Dixon's grounder back to the mound and turning it into a 1-6-3 double play.

Nick Franklin proved to be the offensive catalyst, going 2-for-3 with a solo home run and four runs scored. He walked and stole second base in the third inning, scoring on a Vinnie Catricala RBI single to left field for a 1-0 lead in the third, then beat out an infield single and scored on Catricala's double to left in the fifth. Franklin rounded out his day with a drive to the right-field seats, marking his first home run of the second half and his 15th of the season.

The Kings also received offense on an RBI push bunt groundout by Daniel Carroll in the fourth and a pair of sacrifice flies by Catricala and Tim Morris in the ninth. Catricala finished the day 2-for-4 with his team-leading 24th double and three RBI, taking over the team lead with 44 total RBI.

Right-hander Daniel Cooper loaded up the bases on two singles and a fielder's choice in the eighth, yet worked out of the jam as Luis Nunez started a 4-6-3 double play on a grounder to second by Mike Gilmartin. Cooper would not escape trouble in the ninth, however, as he walked the bases loaded with two outs before serving up a two-run single to Leonardo Gil.

Closer Brandon Josselyn (S, 11) came on to relieve Cooper and threw just one pitch, inducing Jason Christian into the game-ending 6-3 groundout.

The loss went to Kane County right-hander Dan Straily (L, 6-6), who allowed four runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings.

Six Clinton hitters had multi-hit games, led by James Jones, who went 3-for-5 with a double and two singles. No Kane County player had more than one hit, although Gil finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.

The LumberKings (9-7) conclude the series with Kane County (9-8) tomorrow night at Elfstrom Stadium, first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Left-hander Nick Czyz (1-0, 1.21) will make his fourth start for Clinton. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
