Lake County Captains News Release
(Fort Wayne, IN)- Josh Van Meter blasted a two run homer to put the icing on the cake in a 7-0 Fort Wayne win over the Captains. The homerun occurred after a one hour and seventeen minute rain delay, and that was the dagger. The Captains (11-27) have lost three straight ballgames. Fort Wayne just clinched their second series win of the season with the victory.
Fort Wayne (16-21) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. Milbrath hit the first batter of the ballgame and then Mallex Smith laid down the perfect bunt single. A double by Dustin Peterson scored both runners and the score was 2-0. After two ground ball outs, Peterson scored himself to make the advantage 3-0 Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne added a run in the third inning. With two outs and a runner at third base Franmil Reyes hit a groundball to second base. Claudio Bautista lost the ball in the transfer and the E4 allowed a run to score. The score in the ballgame was 4-0 Fort Wayne after three innings.
Fort Wayne added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, Dane Phillips tripled and then Jake Bauers hit a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-0. The rains came and the Captains and Tincaps went into rain delay format for the nest one hour and seventeen minutes later the game resumed.
RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-2) started for Lake County and took the loss. Milbrath allowed Six runs, five earned runs on five hits. He walked one and fanned one and then the rain came. After the rain delay Milbrath did not return. Ben Heller pitched two thirds of an inning and allowed the homer to Van Meter. Caleb Hamrick pitched the final four innings and did not allow a run for Lake County.
RHP Kyle Lloyd (1-1) started for Fort Wayne and pitched four innings. Lloyd did not get a decision. Lloyd did not allow a run, and just four hits. Lloyd struck out five. Tony Wieber (2-0) earned the win after pitching four scoreless innings. Wilson Santos pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the TinCaps.
The Captains will remain in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Wednesday to conclude a three game series with the TinCaps. Lake County will start RHP Adam Plutko (2-0, 3.31) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Coby Cowgill (2-1, 3.79). First Pitch is at 11:05 AM from Parkview Field.
