Lansing Lugnuts News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Matt Dermody rolled through eight shutout innings with plenty of run support as the Lansing Lugnuts (19-18) blanked the Bowling Green Hot Rods (16-21), 10-0, on Tuesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Lugnuts surpassed the .500 mark for the first time since the season's first day.
The 23-year-old Dermody (Win, 2-0) allowed just four hits and one walk while doubling a season-best with six strikeouts and facing a mere three batters above the minimum.
Offensively, the Lugnuts tied a season high with 15 hits for the second night in a row. The Lugs have outscored Bowling Green 21-4 through the first two games of the three-game series.
Shortstop Dawel Lugo hit his first home run of the season leading off the fourth, a solo shot to put the Lugs ahead.
In the fourth inning, D.J. Davis drove a two-run home run for the second straight night to push the Lansing lead to 3-0.
The Lugnuts stretched the lead to 10 with five runs in the top of the ninth inning, capped off by a three-run double by catcher Santiago Nessy.
After a four-hit night on Monday, Lugo went 3-for-5 on Tuesday with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Davis added a stolen base to his three-hit night, and is now 8-for-15 across the last three contests.
Roberto Espinosa pitched a perfect ninth inning to close out the Lansing win, inducing three grounders to Lugo at shortstop.
The Lugnuts and Hot Rods will conclude the three-game set on Wednesday morning at 11:35 a.m. at Bowling Green Ballpark. Jeremy Gabryszwski (2-2, 3.73) will start on the mound for Lansing, with top prospect Ryne Stanek (0-1, 1.80) on the mound for Bowling Green, and the Hot Rods looking to avoid the sweep.
Lansing returns home to Michigan's state capital on Thursday, May 15th, a Labatt Thirsty Thursday with $2 beers and sodas. Tickets are available for purchase via the Cooley Law School Stadium box office, telephone at 517-485-4500 and online at lansinglugnuts.com . To sign up for Lugnuts Alerts, text LUGNUTS to 80373.
