Kane County Cougars News Release

BELOIT, Wis. - Daury Torrez tossed his fourth quality inning of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Cougars (26-12) fell to the Snappers (15-22) by a score of 3-2 at Pohlman Field on Tuesday.

The Cougars jumped out in front in the fifth inning. Jordan Hankins doubled to lead off the frame and moved over to third on David Bote's groundout. Shawon Dunston Jr. lifted a fly ball to right field to score Hankins for the first run of the ball game at 1-0 in favor of the Cougars.

Torrez kept the Snappers scoreless for six innings and only allowing one hit. Beloit's offense didn't get going until a new pitcher in the seventh. Nathan Dorris started the seventh and found trouble with a one-out walk to Ryan Huck. Huck moved to second on a wild pitch and Luis Baez singled him to third. Jose Chavez flied out to right to score Huck and tie the ballgame 1-1.

The Snappers continued the pressure in the eighth inning as Boog Powell led off with a walk. Dorris' error allowed Powell to reach third and led to an intentional walk with Tyler Marincov. A wild pitch moved Marincov to second, putting both runners in scoring position. BA Vollmuth gave the Snappers their first lead with a single to left field to put Beloit on top 3-1.

The Cougars scored a run in the ninth on David Bote's RBI single, but didn't have enough to complete the comeback.

Junior Mendez (2-2) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Dorris (4-2) suffered the loss being charged with three runs, one earned.

The Cougars look to avoid the sweep on Wednesday. Juan Paniagua (1-1, 4.44) will toss for the Cougars against Beloit's Lou Trivino (2-3, 4.34). First pitch at Pohlman Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game can be heard on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com.
