Bees Swept in Doubleheader

(Clinton-IA)- The Burlington Bees were swept in a doubleheader to the Clinton LumberKings on Tuesday by the score of 7-4 and 3-2 at Ashford University Field in Clinton.

Clinton took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Ian Miller scored on a Marcus Littlewood sacrifice fly putting the LumberKings up 1-0.

Burlington answered in the top of the second inning. Eric Aguilera led off the inning with a double to right and would later score on a double off the left field wall by Exicardo Cayones, tying the game at one.

Clinton regained the lead 2-1 after the restart but Eric Aguilera put the Bees on top 4-2 in the third with a three run homer to right, his first of the season.

Clinton went on to score fifth unanswered runs, highlighted by homeruns from Jeff Zimmerman and Corey Simpson and the Bees fell in game one, 7-4. Clinton reliever Rafael Pineda (3-2) picked up the win while Michael Smith (2-2) was charged with the loss for the Bees. Emilio Pagan (6) earned the save.

Just like game one, Clinton jumped on the board first when Ian Miller tripled to right scoring Christian Carmichael from first and the Bees trailed 1-0.

For the first time this season the Bees went back-to-back. Chad Hinshaw led off the fourth inning with his fourth homer of the season tying the game at one. Mike Fish followed up with his second long ball of the season, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead.

The lead didn't last long thanks to Chantz Mack who homered to left tying the game at two in the fifth.

For the seventh time in the month of may the Bees went to extra innings. Jack Reinheimer secured a LumberKings win with an RBI single to right field giving Clinton the 3-2 win in nine innings.

Thyago Viera (0-1) picked up the win as Alex Blackford (0-1) was charged with the loss. The Bees fall to 16-20 after the doubleheader sweep.

The Bees will look to salvage game three of the series tomorrow starting at 12:30 PM. Elliot Morris goes for the Bees and Lars Huijer going for the Clinton.
