He followed up that campaign with an All-Star season in 2012, going 6-6 with a 1.87 ERA in 18 starts. The Los Puertos de Altagracia, Venezuela, native was named to the MWL All-Star team and was the winning pitcher in the All-Star game, too. In late July, he was transferred to Double-A San Antonio, where he finished the season. With the Missions, Portillo went 2-5 with a 7.20 ERA in eight starts.

The Fort Wayne roster stands at the Midwest League limit of 25 players.
