Comstock Park, MI - In game one of a day-night doubleheader against the West Michigan Whitecaps, the Fort Wayne TinCaps were on the losing end of a 5-0 decision Saturday afternoon. The Whitecaps scored all five of their runs in a nine-batter sixth inning, but needed only two hits to get the scoring done.

Fort Wayne (41-26) starter Max Fried, delivered the second straight scoreless starting outing for the TinCaps, as he went five innings, allowing five hits, issuing two walks, and striking out five. His counterpart, Jordan John, also went five scoreless innings, giving up two hits, walking one and fanning two.

TinCaps reliever Joe Church (1-1) entered in the sixth but only retired two batters, with all five of the game's runs scoring on his tab. After retiring leadoff hitter Jared Reaves, Church allowed an infield single to West Michigan (33-35) second baseman Devon Travis. Two wild pitches from Church moved Travis to third, and then Jeff Holm hit a grounder to second base. Felix Cabrera threw home, wildly missing the plate, allowing Travis to score and Holm to end up at second. The TinCaps then elected to intentionally walk Lance Durham, putting runners at first and second. Two Church walks later, the Whitecaps had scored yet another run, and the bases were still loaded. Durham scored on a passed ball, making it 3-0, and Danry Vasquez hit a two-run double to send the score to 5-0.

Whitecaps reliever Yorfrank Lopez (7-3), who pitched four scoreless innings, picked up the win.

For the second straight game, the TinCaps were limited to just four hits. Brian Adams had two, while Corey Adamson and Chris Burke each had one. With the loss, the TinCaps are locked into the first-half wild card spot. They also lost their first back-to-back games since May 24th and 25th.

Game two of the doubleheader is set for 7:00 PM. The scheduled starters are Adys Portillo for Fort Wayne and Julio Felix for West Michigan. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
