Clinton LumberKings News Release

Beloit, WI - The Beloit Snappers used two big innings to beat the LumberKings, 10-3, on Saturday night at Pohlman Field. Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Beloit got a two-run homer from Christopher Bostick to even the score and a two-run double from Matt Olson to take a 4-2 lead. Clinton pulled within 4-3 in the top of the eighth on Jordy Lara's sacrifice fly. Snappers centerfielder Brett Vertigan made a diving catch to kill the Clinton rally. Matt Vedo, who came on in the sixth for starter Anthony Vasquez, ran into trouble in the eighth with two outs. With Daniel Robertson at third and Renato Nunez at second, Vedo struck out Olson for the second out of the inning. Clinton elected to intentionally walk John Wooten to load the bases for Ryan Delgado. The move backfired when Vedo walked Delgado to give Beloit at 5-3 lead. The next batter, Ryan Mathews, followed with a three-run double off the left-field wall. Then Bostick added his second two-run blast of the game to make it 10-3. The LumberKings went quietly in the ninth and dropped to 33-35 on the year. With a win Sunday in the series finale, the Snappers can clinch the first-half Western division title. Clinton sends right-hander David Holman (1-3, 3.98) to the mound against Beloit left-hander Brent Powers (3-2, 6.00) Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM CT.
