Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - A shorthanded Medicine Hat Tigers squad rolled into Mosaic Place looking to win the season series against the Moose Jaw Warriors. Missing two veteran defenseman in the lineup forced the Tigers to bring up local affiliate Dylan MacPherson, who was listed earlier in the season.

The opening period was in the Warriors favor as they outshot the Tigers 17-11 but Mack Shields, who was getting the start for the Tabbies, stood tall allowing only 1 goal on those attempts. Tanner Jeannot, who has been a thorn in the Tigers side this season scored his 10th of the season a few minutes after Max Gerlach broke a long goalless drought for his 23rd of the season to lead the Tigers in that category. The two clubs would remain tied for the rest of the period heading into the intermission.

In the second period, the flood gates would open for the Warriors as they had pressure for majority of the period, outshooting the Tigers 25-9 in the frame and scoring 6 times. Medicine Hat would take the lead early on as Steven Owre continued his hot streak since returning from injury, scoring his 12th of the year, but the goal would be the only bright spot for the Tabbies in the period. Team Canada participant Brayden Point led the offensive attack for the Warriors, tying the game just over a minute later from the Owre goal. Moose Jaw would add 5 more in the period, as Medicine Hat made a goaltending change midway through. After 2 periods of play, the Tigers saw themselves down 7-2.

The final frame saw the Tigers bring out a better defensive game, holding the Warriors to only 10 shots on net. Point would finish off his hat trick in the frame, scoring his 24th of the season. The lone goal for the Tabbies was Chad Butcher's 17th of the year as Matt Bradley picked up the assist in his return to the lineup after missing Saturday's game due to an undisclosed injury. Unfortunately for the Tigers, depsite playing a good third period, the deficit was too much to overcome as they would fall 9-3 on Sunday afternoon, splitting the season series with the Warriors 2-2-0-0.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

1. BRAYDEN POINT - MJ - (3G)

2. DRYDEN HUNT - MJ - (1G, 3A)

3. TANNER JEANNOT - MJ - (2G)

Medicine Hat is back in action Tuesday night when they take on the Swift Current Broncos for the first time this season.
