Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), defending U.S. Division champion, and general manager Garry Davidson announced today that the club has signed prospect forward Brett Kemp to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.
"Getting Brett signed was a high priority of ours and we're excited for the potential he has with our club in the future," said Davidson. "He caught our attention as a player who stood out by putting up solid numbers and has continued to make strides in his game. We are proud to welcome Brett to the Silvertips family."
Kemp, a 2000-born forward, was selected by the Silvertips with their first pick - a second round selection (41st overall) - in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. He is fifth in league scoring, also leading first year players and ranking second overall in scoring for the Yorkton Maulers of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with 41 points in 36 games.
The Yorkton, Saskatchewan native is second on the club in goals (18) and assists (23), and tied for second in power play goals (5). Kemp was third in Saskatchewan with 79 points (37g-42a) in 30 games last year at the Bantam level for Yorkton, who went 30-1 in the regular season and won the provincial championship to earn a spot in the Western Canadian Bantam Championships.
Kemp tied for the league lead with nine goals and totaled 15 points in nine postseason contests.
The WHL Scholarship encourages graduates to pursue a post-secondary education while also affording them the opportunity to continue playing hockey at an elite level in the Canadian University or College systems. For every season a player spends in the WHL, he receives a full year guaranteed Scholarship to a higher education institution. Each year over 300 WHL graduates attend a university or college on a WHL Scholarship.
Wednesday brings a 7:05 p.m. (1380 AM/ WHL Live) home game with the Silvertips hosting the Portland Winterhawks at XFINITY Arena. Midweek Madness tickets are on sale, offering two tickets for just $20 when purchased online.
